Troll... is that the best you can do for your 1st posting? Everyone here knows the GD policy regarding sharing their tapes.

Hmm, seems like some of the dick-heads here are quite happy to be hypocrites and download Grateful Dead (and other) commercial releases from other sites, whilst lambasting people who try to download soundboards from here.

Total fecking eejits.

How many times will take for everyone to realize that THIS is a life? If your point is that IT is a pathetic life, get in line--this is very OLD news. But, yes, largely, we sit around chatting about the DEAD, mocking one another, and welcoming newcomers unless they rub us the wrong way. That is very much a "life" and I am not sure you or anyone else is in a position to qualify it as any more or less pathetic than the next "life", and certainly since many of us don't believe in an "afterlife", we might as well make the most of all these "lifes", pathetic ones included...those of us that do look forward to various representations of 69 fig trees, or eternal bliss, or reunions with long past relatives, well, how on Earth can they be chided for wasting time around here when they have something really great to look forward to?

Yep, the way I see it, there really isn't much ground to stand on vis-a-vis critiques of the "Forum Life"...

You guys are obviously a bunch of burnouts. I'm not leaving a life in the real world for this crap. Thanks for the offer though.

Try not to get too thrown off by a bad first posting; people on here are generally friendlier than that, and it's a shame that you were greeted with such hostility right off the bat. I've had a few weird run-ins with people but for the most part I have a lot of respect for the folks on this forum. Burnouts or no, we all have good hearts and share a deep love for this music.

The conversations I'm most interested in around here are the ones involving histories of particular aspects of the dead's playing, like the kinds of things light into ashes tends to post. Even if you don't want to post anymore, you should stick around because this forum is where I get most of my recommendations of what I should listen to next. :)

Actually, I think that the two of us, SYW and me, got on okay; I won't answer for the others that posted, but I was responding to the "attitude" displayed in the "am I the only one..." and the implied "no-no" vis-a-vis Forum rules...in the end, I think the two of us parted on good terms, but will leave him to speak for himself. On the other hand, he may have been upset with my usual crypticity in posting for which I have only myself to blame.

Yeah, I wasn't responding specifically to the small dispute between you and him. I just wanted to put in my two cents and to let a newcomer know that I find a lot of the views around here really insightful, yours included WT, even if your language is sometimes roundabout and oddly (albeit correctly) phrased. :)

Thanks, Steals...and in fact, re-reading my posts, GenBen had a point: my sarcasm comes thru at times in a more negative fashion than I intend it to, esp when I mis-read someone, and jump to a conclusion prematurely, as I often do (eg, initially I lumped you in with the posters that talk about taking advantage of DL songs when they know you shouldn't and so forth). Suffice it to say, for my less than welcoming "welcome", let me apologize, and echo micmac's simple sentiment--we can use all the newbies we can keep around this odd ball family, so stick around!

Before you go, do you know the average income of the Forumites? You'd be surprised; you really need to re-evaluate the American dream: obtain as many resources as possible to allow you to spend your time doing whatever you like, including participating in strange little forums like this...how could you possibly imagine that going out in to your so called real world is less of an exemplification of "the good life" than being here? It's called "leisure time".
